TACTIC Project Final Conference and Meeting held in Brussels, Belgium on March 15-16, 2016

TACTIC Project Final Conference and Meeting was held in Brussels, Belgium on March 15-16, 2016. It was a joint conference of the two EU projects POP-ALERT (Population Alerting: Linking Emergencies, Resilience and Training) and TACTIC (Tools, Methods and Training for Communities and Society to better prepare for a Crisis). They both deal with aspects of disaster preparation and response as well as risk communication and will be completed in Spring 2016.

The aim of the conference was to present and discuss sthe most relevant results and products of the projects with stakeholders from all over Europe. The conference therefore provides a unique opportunity to (i) learn more about the state of the art of building preparedness to different crises and communication, (ii) gain detailed information on the final outcomes of each project and also about the different case studies, (iii) test and discsuss the products in interactive sessions, and (iv) exchange with other participants and actors on common themes and experiences.

Conference agenda

As the project partner, METU participants included Prof. Dr. A. Nuray Karancı, Dr. Gözde İkizer, Canay Doğulu, and Şerife Yılmaz.  The practical case study partners from Turkey who participated in the conference were Prof. Dr. Canan Sümer (METU Department of Psychology), Asst. Prof. Hüseyin Bayraktar (Kaynaşlı Vocational School of Düzce University, Director), and Ali Kartal (Provincial Directorate of Disaster and Emergency Management [AFAD], Director).

In the conference, Prof. Dr. A. Nuray Karancı made a presentation on communtiy resilience and preparesness and how the TACTIC learning platform can contribute to facilitation of preparedness.
